| Microsoft Access Database corruption
Here at Xorand we have developed many Microsoft Access applications and advised on the usage of Microsoft Access. Our team has also been called in a number of times when the database is corrupted. A Microsoft Access database is corrupted when it has lost some of it’s data or functionality. Of course we can help you out when your Microsoft Access database is corrupted. However it is a whole lot better if you can prevent happening this.
Let’s look at some of the symptoms that might tell your database is corrupted. There are error messages when:
- Scrolling through data records
- Forms or Reports are opened
- Database is opened or closed
What makes matters worse is that sometimes there is no error message at all! Forms or Reports are all of a sudden missing data or showing gibberish here and there and might crash all of a sudden. Another signal is that the database is not compacting at all anymore.
The cause of database corruption is sometimes hard to identify and can be a mix of factors. Nevertheless, let’s name a few of these factors:
- Some one tried to open the database with Word
- Multiple users are using the database with different versions of Microsoft Access (or different service packs)
- The database was shared on some ones computer instead of a network server
- Database was never compacted
- Power failure during the writing of data
- Poor design of the database
- Poor design of the database program
